How the Institute for Social Development (ISD) at the University of the Western Cape collects and uses personal information on this website, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the University’s privacy policy.
Purpose and overview
Your privacy is important to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and to the Institute for Social Development. This statement applies to the ISD website (isd.uwc.ac.za). It follows the UWC Privacy Policy and the University’s POPIA Policy, which apply to all UWC websites and take precedence where they differ.

You can browse this website anonymously. We collect personal information only when you give it to us, for example your name, email address and message when you use the contact form. We will not share, exchange or sell your email address or any other personal information you provide to third parties.
Like the main UWC website, this site uses cookies and Google Analytics to understand how visitors use it. This information is aggregated and does not identify you personally. Analytics cookies are set only after you accept them in the cookie notice; if you decline or turn cookies off in your browser you can still use the website in full.
Use of information
We process the personal information collected on this website to respond to your enquiries and to facilitate our online interactions with you, including information about ISD programmes, research and events where you have asked for it.
Security of information
We use reasonable security measures to protect the personal information we hold. No method of transmission over the Internet or of electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights under POPIA
The Protection of Personal Information Act came into effect on 1 July 2021. You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to its processing. Requests, and any question about this statement, can be sent to the ISD office at info@isd.uwc.ac.za or to the University’s Information Officer through the UWC privacy pages, which also cover requests under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA).
