These outcomes are not accidental but are structurally entrenched, arising from historical inequities, corporate capture of food systems, and fragmented governance that privileges market interests over human rights. This seminar will interrogate the transformative potential of social mobilization in advancing equity-driven food policy reform, grounding its analysis in a critical, rights-based framework. By centering SA’s Bill of Rights as a normative foundation, the research dissects the dynamics of power, exclusion, and epistemic injustice that perpetuate food insecurity. This research challenges the neoliberal governance model, which reduces food security to technical solutions while obscuring the Political-economic forces that reproduce hunger.
