Overview
South Africa has a hunger crisis, and student hunger is an unrecognised part of that crisis. ISD and the Centre of Excellence in Food Security are hosting a Hunger Hearing at UWC, on behalf of the Union Against Hunger (UAH), to focus attention on student hunger at South Africa’s universities.
This Hunger Hearing offers a platform for students at UWC to share their personal experiences of hunger, what is being done about it, and what needs to be done. These testimonies and ideas will be used in UAH advocacy and campaigns.
UAH’s mission is to end the crime of hunger in South Africa by holding to account those with power to deliver the constitutional right to food, empowering communities, and advocating for an equitable food system. We are not just raising awareness — we are demanding immediate action. Hunger must fall!
