Prof Mulugeta F. Dinbabo was part of the 2025 Africa Visa Openness Index report which was officially launched at the Ninth Pan-African Forum on Migration in Cape Town, South Africa. Presenting the report, officials reiterated that mobility is the engine of African integration – fuelling trade, skills, investment, and opportunity.
AVOI offers a timely assessment of one of the most critical pillars of Africa’s integration agenda: the free movement of people, goods, services, and investments across the continent. The Index highlights steady progress, with more Africans now able to travel visa-free or access visas on arrival, and a small but growing group of countries fully opening their borders to African visitors without visa requirements or reciprocity.
These advances set an important benchmark, demonstrating how simplified entry regimes can accelerate regional integration, trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchange.
