Overview
The people of Sudan are facing a major human crisis. More than 25,000 people have been murdered. Government administration, infrastructure, and public services have collapsed.
Sudan has the largest number of displaced people in the world—between 6 and 8 million. Many have become migrants in their own land.
Millions of Sudanese are facing famine and dying from starvation and hunger. The current experience is a cause for concern for students and academics studying Public Administration, Human Mobility, and Food Security. This seminar is designed to introduce us to what is happening in Sudan.
Speaker
Dr. Ahmed Hassan is Sudanese and a post-doctoral fellow at Stellenbosch University’s Centre for Research, Science, Evaluation and Technology. He is a strong advocate for restoring peace and democracy in Sudan. Dr. Hassan participated in organising peaceful gatherings and marches in Pretoria and was chosen by the Sudanese community there as a member of a committee that met the Sudanese ambassador to discuss ways of supporting democracy, peace, and prosperity in Sudan. He remains committed to contributing to initiatives that alleviate the suffering of Sudanese people, including displaced and starving children.
